The words from this wise and spiritual man still ring true today as they did when he passionately spoke them in 1963. These words now have a power, and a broader meaning that when he first spoke them. These words are thoughtful, elegant and wise. These words help us to be stirred into action towards a positive, peaceful path forward. These words aimed to help us become better people, with a singular desire to have us pull together and act collectively as humans to make the world, our world, a better place.
ep-170119317We need to remember these words today more than ever.
I too have a dream. In fact, I have many dreams. Though today I speak of the dream that I feel most of you reading this will too share.
easter2009-052Today, I mourn the loss of someone dear to me. I mourn especially as her wise words often guided me on my life journey and I know today that I will not have the pleasure again in this lifetime, on this earth. She is gone from the physical plane and I will have to console myself with the memories of her wise words and our time together. I feel the need to make sure that I honor that love, those words and make her smile, be proud. That is the power of love.
It is in her memory, of her wise words that have meant so much to me over the years that I script this today, thinking of the power of our words on others and of the lasting effect that can have. Just as Mr. Kings words still ring with the power today of creating a desire for equality, for all humans to rally together in peace to help move us towards a brighter future, I recall the words that instilled in me the faith to move forward towards my own dreams, to never be afraid or to feel alone. Though I have always walked to the beat of a different drummer, I was never shunned for my own path. I will forever be grateful for this love.
Today, a national holiday in America, honors a man who strove to make the world a better place, a man who most definitely walked to the beat of his own tune.
This week, we embark on a new era in the history of America, one which we will have to patiently wait to see the unfolding as it happens. We are living in real time, as always, and I feel stronger than ever, we will need to make sure to continue to steer our own boats towards the direction of our dreams and never to loose faith in the greater good.
To paraphrase from Mr. Kings famous speech, – NOW is the time to make real the promises of democracy, now is the time to make the world a better place for everyone, and now is the time to live to our best ability because now is all we are ever certain to have.
Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.
We cannot walk alone.
We cannot turn back.
And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream and now I feel it has grown up to become a human dream one for all of us collectively to strive towards a better world.
Use your time wisely today to follow your dreams. And with love, always reach for the stars.
