HOLISTIC INNER DESIGNS
The Moon has over the ions been a symbolic messenger of our intentions, our emotions, the cycles of nature, and of all life.  The last few years have had a lot of very intense changes globally and the impact of these changes are affecting us all, and will continue to do so like the ripples of pebbles tossed onto water.

This year, the year of the Golden Ox, the Full Moon this month is on Wednesday 20 October.  It is called the Hunter’s Moon, or less commonly called the Travel Moon and the Dying Grass Moon, because it is the tenth full moon of 2021. The Full Moon seems larger and sometimes more yellow/gold/orange because it is closer to the horizon, though it is of course the same size as it always is. Yet I appreciate this reminder that our perspective can change depending on the context of how we are looking at things.

I am not the same having seen the moon shine on the other side of the world.

2021 has had a few interesting celestial occurances in it with the Blue Moon in August plus we have had the luxury of four full moons in the summer season this year which is more than the typical three. Additionally there have been a few meteorites that have landed on Earth, luckily with no known harm to the woman that woke up with it next to her in bed…There seems to be a lot of energy swirling around the globe and I for one, want to harness it in as positive manner as possible. Like this chica, who had a visit from a Meteorite but it just lands next to her head. Meteorite Lands in Bed.
The season of Autumn has a special depth of power in it as it is the season of harvesting all that we have worked so hard for. It is the time to reap our harvest so to speak. Plus it is about the planning and preparing for the more challenging season ahead. So this is a very powerful moment to start doing Full Moon Rituals, if you have never done one before or even if you are a seasoned practioner, it is a good time to focus on this Full Moon as we enter into the final quarter of 2021.
Even if you do not consider yourself a specific religious belief or to a certain spiritual practice, using the power of a Full Moon can have many benefits that you may wish to incorporate into your life. It gives you a moment to slow down and reconnect with what you are feeling and what is either holding you back or what is pulling you forward. We often just do not take the time to think and reconnect with ourselves. Secondly, it allows us to capture the power of perspective again. The Moon is there every night and yet I am guessing it may have been along while since you have just sat and looked it deeply, with all it’s mystery and magic. Just absorbing the moon beams into your heart. If only these things, doing a Full Moon Ritual can enhance your life, even a little bit.
Plus, this year, of the Golden Ox, has had its energetic challenges for many of us and the year is not yet over. Thus, I am sharing this ritual as an opportunity to empower you to place your intention for yourself, your community, and our planet now as a path to healing and soothing.

What is the Quality of your Intentions?

The Full Moon tomorrow comes two full days before the Fall Equinox this year. The full moon is symbolic across all cultures. Divine femine and the power of intentions are increased during the Full Moons. This is your opportunity to take advantage of a celestial occurrence to align with your own inner power, believing and knowing that all things are interconnected and your intention can be multiplied if done at the right moment.
Ritual is specific to YOU. Do not feel you need to follow to this exactly, and I suggest you follow your own heart’s path on what feels right for you.

Now it is time to Dance By the Light of the Moon…

  1. Think about what is important to you that you want to ENHANCE in your life and in the world RIGHT NOW.  Figure out a way to create a written note (this can be on a post-it or just on a sheet of paper) and you should write it down. The most important thing is to be clear. I mean crystal clear. The Moon, as with us all, needs to understand your intention so do not use fancy words or generalizations. Be specific and ask for what you want and need. This is not the time to play it safe.
  2. Prepare the space. Get some objects that mean something special to you. Things that represent the heart of who you are, and the things you want to change. For example, if you wish to let go of something, then find an object that can represent this and bring it together. I suggest a candle, a piece of fruit, an essence or incense stick or sage bundle, plus a shiny object like a crystal or maybe just a pile of loose change. A colorful piece of fabric like a scarf or a table runner could be helpful for you to ‘set the stage’ for the sacred ritual. You bring all of these objects together, in a location where you can see the full moon. If possible, outside under the full moon would be best, however, if you only live in an apartment, then a table near a window is just fine. And if you can’t see the full moon from your home, still be close to the window and a view of the sky so you can use your imagination and connect with the moonbeams even if you can’t see it directly.
  3. Perform the ritual. Once your sacred objects are set, you can choose a time to perform your ritual. This is best to do between 11 pm – 1 am of the full moon however it is important that this fits your life and your intention so it is entirely up to you. This ritual does not need to be very long or elaborate. It needs to be authentic. So once the stage is set, and you are ready, I suggest you sit quietly for a few minutes to center yourself, ground yourself in the earth and calm your heart energy. Have your written intention nearby and once you feel prepared, you can light your candle, and say your intention out loud.  Spend a few minutes visualizing it. Try to feel as if it has happened and embrace the emotions you will feel once your intentions are met. Close your eyes and give thanks. Then you can close the ritual by blowing out the candle.
This is a very simple act of stating your intention out loud and allowing the space for it to be present. A ritual is simply an act of honouring, slowing down and placing your intention into something sacred and significant to you.   If you want more information about this you can read a previous blog of mine about this HERE.
Because the crazy energy of the full moon seems to always inspire me and especially this Hunter’s Full Moon, and perhaps because of my love of owls and cats, here is the fabulous Edward Lear’s The Owl & the Pussycat ((video version too!)
I The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea In a beautiful pea green boat, They took some honey, and plenty of money, Wrapped up in a five pound note. The Owl looked up to the stars above, And sang to a small guitar, ‘O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love, What a beautiful Pussy you are, You are, You are! What a beautiful Pussy you are!’
II Pussy said to the Owl, ‘You elegant fowl! How charmingly sweet you sing! O let us be married! too long we have tarried: But what shall we do for a ring?’ They sailed away, for a year and a day, To the land where the Bong-tree grows And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood With a ring at the end of his nose, His nose, His nose, With a ring at the end of his nose.
III ‘Dear pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling Your ring?’ Said the Piggy, ‘I will.’ So they took it away, and were married next day By the Turkey who lives on the hill. They dined on mince, and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon; And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, They danced by the light of the moon, The moon, The moon, They danced by the light of the moon.

May this Hunter’s Moon bring you the courage and strength to LET GO of the things that are no longer serving you, or at least to start the process. Be patient with yourself, and trust in the power of your thoughts and dreams.
Setting the stage is a powerful part of the process of creating and performing rituals. This also rings true with the spaces you live and work in. Set your stage for success and sacredness.
