S. LEE WRIGHT
HOLISTIC INNER DESIGNS
At the end of every project, I provide a Care & Maintenance Guide to my clients. I want to ensure that we have provided sufficient information so that the products and design we worked so hard to create are maintained and can last a good old time.
This is also a selfish aspect to this gift; the longer we keep things working and pretty, the less likely we will have to replace them (and therefore keeping them out of landfills!) My SUSTAINABLE instincts play a key role in this “gift” for my clients.

When I started my firm back in 2002, it was with the intention to bring GREAT DESIGN to everyone – not just the wealthy but to everyone. I feel that having a space that supports you and makes you happy is a right we all deserve to have. Now, in 2018 I have expanded this intention to include that I feel everyone in the world deserves to have an environment that provides a SACRED SPACE for us all, and that includes the PLANET in which we live in as well as the individual structures we have built on it. If you want to bring in some great design to your life, you can reach out to me here to see if I am the WRIGHT designer for you.
I am very lucky because the people I work with CARE. They care about their SPACES, and they care about the EARTH. Sometimes it just takes some education or INFORMATION SHARING to bring around a new way of thinking but I have not met anyone that does not care if given the correct information.
My Care and Maintenance Guides include instructions on how to care for your home in a HEALTHY and MINDFUL manner. There are often specifics to the individual’s design but some of the consistent elements I am going to share with you here. This is my way of sharing information so my people can start to make more MINDFUL CHOICES, and therefore less toxic and LESS HARMFUL than ever before.
GIFTS THAT KEEP ON GIVING
If you want to think about giving this concept to a friend or family member too, then we can help create a personalized version just for you. Please reach out to us at lee@sleewright.com to learn more.
To your HEALTHY HOME that brings you happiness, joy, and well-being for yourself, your family and our planet. Enjoy!

Drain & Pipe Cleaner

Every once in a while your drains will get clogged or your sink will start to smell unfriendly. This calls for a good, homemade solution.  This is a green, non-toxic method for clearing and cleaning rather than the old toxic products like Drain-O which was filled with things we do not want to even think about.
Stuff needed:
  • Vinegar
  • Baking Soda
  • Citrus Fruit Peels*
  • Essential Oils**
Instructions:
Dump about 1 cup of vinegar and baking soda into the drain. Watch then as it will sizzle and bubble like a science experiment (which is good) after a few minutes run hot water to flush it down. Boom! All clear and clean now.
If you are having some more difficulty because of a problem clog, you can add some boiling water into the clogged pipe after about 15 minutes and this will clear it up!

**Vinegar – Changing the scent

Some people love the smell, others not so much. For those of us that do not love the smell, (though of course, I prefer it to toxic odors!), here is a trick I learned from another blogger I love – http://www.mymerrymessylife.com  – She created a citrus-infused vinegar to scent the vinegar in a way that she liked and I like it too! Just add citrus peels to your bottle of vinegar and leave it. It is that simple. After about a week they become very soft and continually add their scent for about a month (after that, I remove them and the smell remains).
Or you can add your favorite essential oils to the vinegar to change the smell. For me, lavender and rosemary make for a great combination, though depending on where in my house I use different oils for different smells. I tend to change my oils with the seasons. Citrus is more of a summertime scent for me and I use herbs in the Autumn and Winter.

Garbage Disposal Cleaner

You can add dried citrus fruit peels into your garbage disposal if you have one (*though you shouldn’t use it if you are really water conscious as they make the water filtration process very difficult and are now banned in new constructions in NYC)

Washing Machines Cleaner

Sometimes adding hydrogen peroxide along with your vinegar and baking soda mix if you are having problems with the smells in your washing machines. This will not harm your machine. Just run the machine once (without clothes!) and the machine will be clean and fresh for the next load of clothes. This is a good thing to do annually too.

Natural Tile Cleaner

Vinegar is a natural, non-toxic product that safely deodorizes, disinfects and cleans most hard surfaces. When your porcelain or tile floors become soiled, vinegar can effectively clean them without harsh fumes. White vinegar is a mild acid that works especially well to dissolve grease and hard water stains. Once the vinegar dries, it leaves behind a fresh, neutral scent. You can customize the scent by mixing a few drops of your favorite essential oils into the vinegar solution before cleaning.
Stuff needed:
  • Vinegar
  • Bucket with mop
  • Broom or vacuum
  • Soft cloth or towel
Instructions
Mix 1/4 to 1/2 cup white vinegar with 1 gallon of warm water in a bucket.
Sweep the porcelain or tile floors with a broom or vacuum them on the hard floor setting to remove loose dirt and debris.
Dip a mop into the vinegar solution and wring it out. Mop the floor thoroughly starting at one corner of the room and working your way across. Allow the floor to air dry completely or dry it with a towel.
For difficult stains, you can sprinkle the wet tile with baking soda and gently scrub with a soft cloth. Rinse with a vinegar solution and repeat until gone.

Stainless Steel Appliance Cleaner

Though we all love the classic look of the stainless-steel appliances, they are well known for the fingerprints and smudges that they always seem to have on them.
Having an all stainless-steel kitchen once upon a time, I learned this eco-friendly trick years ago and it really works wonders!
Stuff needed:
  • Multiple soft clothes or towels
  • Olive Oil
Instructions:
First, wipe down your fridge with a wet cloth to remove any dried-on food. Next, get the olive oil and a soft cloth. Use approximately 1tbsp, pour onto the cloth and start buffing. Finish it by rubbing up and down with the grain.
The olive oil buffs out every little watermark, smudge, and streak. You will notice the scratches a lot less. The oil does not make the appliances feel greasy either.  Repeat about 1-2 times a week.

Mr. Clean Magic Eraser

Though not technically eco-friendly, this is not a toxic product and has worked mini-miracles for problems my green cleaning products could not tackle.
Brighten up your home by helping to renew its surfaces. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Original will help your walls, baseboards, floors, switch plates, blinds and more look like new again by easily removing scuff marks and dirt. To discover the cleaning possibilities, simply take a swipe. Its water-activated micro-scrubbers reach into the surface grooves, lifting away built up grease and soap scum. The Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Original is so powerful that each swipe removes more grime than the leading all-purpose spray cleaner, and it has no harsh chemicals. Before long, you’ll be back to the things you love best in a brighter, cleaner space.
